Storyboard Text

  • This is Bernadette Soubirous. She was 14 years old when her whole life changed.
  • While out gathering firewood, Bernadette went to cross a river to catch up with her sister and friend. A beautiful woman appeared in a grotto in front of her. Immediately, she fell to the ground praying the rosary.
  • Bernadette had visited that same spot by the grotto 18 times. On the 9th visit, the unidentified woman told Bernadette to drink the spring water from underneath the rock.
  •  She dug under the rock and miraculously, there was flowing spring water that still flows to this day.
  • On her 13th visit, Bernadette was sent out to tell the priests to build a chapel.
  • just as suspected, Bernadette went to tell priest Father Dominique Peyramale her request.  Peyramale told Bernadette that the lady must identify herself, although after she repeated this so the unidentified woman, she just bowed and smile, saying nothing.
  • she is crazy.
  • During this vision, the second of two “miracles of the candle” occurred. Bernadette was holding a lighted candle; during the vision it burned down, and the flame was in direct contact with her skin for over 15 minutes but she showed no sign of experiencing any pain. Nearing the end, the unidentified woman(virgin Mary) had revealed herself as the immaculate conception.
  • You are safe my darling.
  • This is crazy..
  • how is this possible? WOW.
  • During a severe asthma attack, she asked for water from the Lourdes spring, and her symptoms subsided, never to return. Her body was first exhumed on September 2, 1909. Although the crucifix in her hand and the rosary had both oxidized, her body was found to be “incorrupt” – preserved from decomposition, perhaps by supernatural means. She was canonized in 1933, not so much for the content of her visions, but rather for her simplicity and holiness of life.
