I'm not sitting with you because it's all your fault that we lost. If you had saved that goal we would have won.
I feel really uneasy and troubled but I also feel really lonely and disheartened that Hazel, my best friend would say that to me!
I'm such a bad football goalie, I don't even know why I do do it. Everyone in the team must hate me !
Behaviour and Impact
No, I don't want to talk
Lilly, you need to tell me what is wrong hun.
I have really been catastrophising the situation!!
Lilly and Hazel were best friends. They had just played a really tough games against St Fluffburts and lost 0-1. Hazel was a very competitive person, she played striker. Lilly was the goal keeper for the team and was really good but did not manage to save the goal that was scored against them in the second half. Hazel was furious as they had just lost to their rival school and did not want to sit with Lilly on the way back to school.
Lilly gets really upset and starts to have some really negative thoughts
Lilly becomes really ashamed and lonely. She does not want to talk to her mum about what happened because she was so ashamed she did not save the goal. Lilly really started to believe that what hazel said was true. She told herself she was bad at football goalie and she wants to quit the team.
Great save Lilly!
Lilly starts to realise that she has been really unfair to herself and really dramatic. She knows she is a good goalie and that she loves football and enjoys playing it. She feels guilty for not wanting to talk to her mum about what happened as well as it would have helped her feel better and realise that she was catastrophising the situation earlier!
Lilly's mum suggests the she should write down how she feels and Lilly does. She instantly feels more at ease and helps her to really get over the situation and realise it's quite silly. Lilly now knows that she does not have to worry about what Hazel thought about her because she has other friends who truly like her the way she is and won't get mad over football!
Next week at football Lilly plays her best she has ever played. She saves all the goals and their team wins 6-0 to a really hard team! Lilly feels that her regulation activity helped create a lot of self motivation which helped her play at her best.Hazel apologises after the game and thanks her for all the goals she save and admits she was a really bad friend!
