Storyboard Text

  • Exposition
  • It'll be okay honey.
  • You're doing great Jessica!
  • I would take your place in a heartbeat Jessica.
  • Conflict-Internal (Character vs Self)
  • All I want is to RUN
  • Rising Action
  • Hi! I'm Rosa
  • I'll show you to your classes!
  • Jessica is a teenage girl that runs track for her high school. She lives with both of her parents, her little sister Kaylee, and her dog. She looses her leg when a semi turns in front of the school bus she was riding in. She is in a hospital room with her hopeful mom, sympathetic friend Fiona, and the very optimistic doctor. Jessica is very unhappy and is loosing hope of ever running again.
  • Climax
  • Jessica can no longer fulfill her passion, which is running track with her best friends. She has been running track for as long as she can remember, and suddenly she can not do that anymore. She has to sit on the sidelines while watching her friends do the thing she loves.
  • Falling Action
  • Yes! We made it!
  • Jessica is finally starting to feel comfortable without her leg. She meets a girl named Rosa who has cerebral palsy, who is great company for Jessica. Jessica also returns to school, where all her friends are waiting for her. Fiona helps her through her first day back at school. Jessica also gets a new prosthetic leg that she starts wearing. Its hard at first, but Jessica gets the hang of it.
  • Resolution
  • After the track team raises enough money to buy Jessica a prosthetic leg built for running, they Jessica realizes that it would be amazing for Rosa to be in an actual race. She is always talking about what it fells like to cross a finish line. Jessica takes in upon herself to train very hard for the difficult 10 mile race. She uses a wheelchair to train with and puts heavy objects in the wheelchair to make it seem that she was actually pushing someone in it. She is doing this all for Rosa. Jessica really pushed herself to the limit.
  • Whew! I am so tired. I just have to remember. I'm doing this for Rosa. I'm doing this for Rosa......
  • Jessica and Rosa run the race together (well, Rosa rides in the race) and finish it together. All of Jessica's friends are there to cheer her on! When they cross the finish line, Rosa has a smile on her face that is a mile long! It was very important for Rosa to be able to experience the rush of excitement of crossing a finish line in a real race.
  • Jessica will become someone that other children look up to for inspiration. She will become greater friends with Rosa and Fiona, not ever be afraid of what life may throw at her. Jessica will rejoin the track team at her high school, continue to be a great runner, and compete in races with people that ave two legs. I believe that even if Jessica has a bad thing happen to her family or friends later in life, she will look back on this incident and comfort them just as they did to her. The end of the book, Jessica says, "This is my new starting line," which means that she is starting her new life without her leg.
  • Lets never stop being friends!
