  • May 14, 1919
  • Well I'm ready to strike! The companies don't care about us even though we served our country!
  • Apparently the negotiations aren't going to well in Calgary and the workers want to strike.
  • Calgary, May 15, 1919
  • On May 15, 1919, negotiations between management and the Winnipeg Trade and Labor Council fell apart. 
  • Well then you will deal with the consequences!
  • You men are being unreasonable!
  • Winnipeg, May 15, 1919
  • The strike organized by the Central Strike Comitte had 30,000 people leave their jobs within hours. Harry and his whole factory walked out of their jobs.
  • June 21, 1919
  • About a month later, Royal Northwest Mounted Police confronted 25,000 protestors on what is known as  "Bloody Saturday".
  • This is unfair! Our cause is just!
  • Harry was faced with a very tough decision.
  • I have to or else I could be arrested for treason!
  • Dad please don't go back to work
  • Like many others, Joe and Harry were forced to return to their job at the steel factory under the harsh conditions.
