Storyboard Text

  • Meeting The Shaman
  • A Special Sacred Location
  • Fasting & Praying
  • Juju Smith is now at the age where puberty has began.  He decides that he wants to go on a vision quest so he can be seen as a young adult in his Aboriginal community.  Juju goes to meet a Shaman to tell him about his interest in the vision quest.
  • The Vision Arrival Of The Spirit Helper
  • Juju goes to a special sacred location where he can create a sweat lodge to cleanse and purify his body. This sweat lodge ceremony was led by a Shaman.
  • The Return Home
  • To further cleanse and purify his body, Juju says prayers and does not eat food for days.  Fasting is done in an effort to get closer to the environment around Juju and to find his true self.
  • The Elders Interpretation
  • When walking down a mysterious path envisioned in Juju's head, he starts to imagine his spirit helper and also sees his spirit animal which is a sheep.  The spirit helper acts as a guide to Juju when thinking about what his life really means to the world.
  • When Juju finally returns home his parents ask him all about his vision quest. They tell him that he is now considered to be an adult in their community as the quest was successfully completed.
  • Juju encounters one of the elders on his reserve and tells him about his vision quest.  The elder says that Juju's new aboriginal name is Juju Smith Sheepster because he saw a sheep. The elder says that the sheep indicates that Juju is a very soft-hearted person.
