Andrew Johnson Impeachment
This storyboard does not have a description.
Andrew Johnson was the 17 president after Lincoln was assasinated
Before he was president he was a southern democrat and owned slaves prior to the war. Lincoln picked him to show that the North and South could co exist and to get more votes
After Lincoln is assassinated Johnson fills in and keeps Lincolns cabinet which is against what congress wanted so they are already off to a rocky start.
Any Deceleration or Bill that got sent out by either would get vetoed. So even when Congress had decided and just needed him to sign it, it would get vetoed. And then he would put something in place where they weren't in session. He proceeded to give a big speech on how they weren't loyal to the union. And then he let dismissed the secretary of war and congress had enough and took him to court.
They'll never get away with this.
The court would fail to convict Johnson of impeachment. They lost by a single vote. But later in 1926 they Supreme court ruled that the tenure act was invalid during the case of "Myers v. United States"
Order in the court!
After all of this president Johnson did not secure the Democratic vote. Horatio Seymore got it. But he would still fall to future president Ulysses S. Grant.
