This storyboard does not have a description.
A costly invasion Odysseus and his men robbed and fought in the Cicones' island. He lost 72 men during this and fled. "The Cicones are allies of the Trojans and therefore enemies of Odysseus." I believe that this was a bad idea because Odysseus needed his men for his voyage back home, and this hurt his chances of getting home. Also, the Cicones were allies of Troy, who were the enemies of Odysseus during the Trojan War.
Odysseus' men is then drugged by the lotus plant by the lotus eaters and try not to leave the island with the addictive drug. They soon are back to normal and escape. "but as I came round Malea the current took me out to sea, and from the north a fresh gale drove me on, past Cythera." This is an example of personification. "...but those who ate this honeyed plant, the Lotus, never cared to report, nor to return." I believe that it was a good decision that odysseus sent runners or else all of his men wouldv'e been intoxicated by the plant.
The bittersweet flower
We shouldn't be here
Odysseus' men arrived on the shore of the cyclopes island. He tells them that they should go find hospitality, his men refused to but Odysseus insisted, and they went. "I brought along, and victuals in a bag, for in my bones I knew some towering brute would be upon us soon all outward power." This was a bad decision that Odysseus made because he knew the brute force that the cyclopes had but he was searching for some sort of help that clearly wasn't on this island.
His men enter the cyclopes' cave even though he left his cave to watch his sheep. The cyclopes startled by these unusual guests and eats some of the men. Odysseus gives him a strong wine that would him(cyclopes) to sleep. "My name is Nohbdy: mother, father, and friends, everyone calls me Nohbdy.' Knowing this, we can tell that there was some dramatic irony in this part because the reader would realize that entering this cave would have some consequences like Odysseus' men killed one by one.
A rock that can't be moved
Odysseus and his men are trapped in the cave for the boulder that covers it cannot be moved by his men. He plans out on how he'll poke out the cyclopes' eye. The proceded to the plan and he struck, leaving a cyclopes blinded and calling out for help. "Out of the cave the mammoth Polyphemus roared in answer: Nohbdy's tricked me, Nohbdy's ruined me!" This plan turned out to be perfect because with this the cyclopes moves the boulder and calls for help, saying that nobody has hurt him, and the others assumed that for Polyphemus.
The missed last shot
Odysseus and his men meet the others and attempt to leave only to find Polyphemus interfering. "'If I could take your life I would and take your time away, and hurl you down to hell! The god of earthquake could not heal you there!" Odysseus taunts the cyclopes which angers him into throwing a boulder to the ship but misses, and the ship sails away. "So the long oars bent kicking the foam sternward, making head until we drew away..." This is an example of personification since the paddle wasn't kicking the water. The theme for this book of the odyssey is pride can cause bad situations for everyone. I said this because if Odysseus left without mocking Polyphemus, he would've not been cursed by him and had to go through mor obstacles.
