  • Why the English language needs phrases and clauses.
  • We need phrases because they make up sentences and dialogue. They also help break up and separate sentences.
  • We need/use semicolons to combine two independent clauses that are similar.
  • While a colon is used for a list or to connect a dependent clause to an independent clause.
  • A dependent phrase has both a subject and a verb. In comparison to an independent clause that has both, but doesn't complete a full thought.
