I will marry Aiofe so that the children have a mother.
lir had four children and a wife called Aoibh. She fell ill and died. The children missed her very much. Lir then married Aoibh's sister Aiofe.
Aiofe was jealous of the children as they were separating Lir from her. She wanted him to herself. She went to a witch and got a spell to punish them.
Aiofe took the children to a lake to swim. While they were swimming she took out the wand and waved it while saying the spell.
Aiofe had turned the children into four beautiful white swans. The children's father came down to the lake and saw what Aiofe had done. The children could still speak so they spoke with Lir every day for three hundred years. They had to go to another lake for three hundred years.
The swans stayed at the new lake for another three hundred years until they left for another lake for three hundred year so. They did this because Aiofe told them that after nine hundred years the spell would be lifted. But only after they heard a Christian bell.
One day as they were swimming they heard a sound. A Christian bell! They magically transformed back into humans but they were very old. They died shortly after but their legacy still remains.
