Japan began to invade nearby countries such as China to expand their empire.
To help defeat America, Japan allied itself with Germany and Italy.
To counter this, America stopped selling their oil, which Japan needed.
Nearby colonies were owned by Britain and Japan did not want to bring America into the war.
Japan decided to destroy a vital part of America's fleet in Pearl harbor through a surprise attack,
