One former candidate Henry Clay who was eliminated was also a speaker of the house with a huge influence on the election. He and John Quincy Adam made a deal so that Adams got the presidency and Clay was later appointed Secretary Of State in return for his vote in the house.

The Nullification Crisis was a critical event of the Jacksonian era. In this era after President Andrew Jackson declared a tariff on imported goods making farmers down south in North Carolina upset because that was there main income. The current vice president at the time John Calhoun told the states they could Nullify the law if they wanted to which of course President Jackson didn't like, leading to further conflict until eventually the Federal government decided to lower the tariff.
President Andrew Jackson because of influence from settlers forced the natives out of their own land and into a packed Oklahoma territory with the other tribes. This lead to the death of thousand of natives during the Trail Of Tears.
Jackson, in a last effort to "establish Democracy" decided that the Nation Bank was unconstitutional and a symbol of big government. After he eventually destroyed it through the removal of its money, the national economy dropped in 1837 leading to a early economic depression. Andrew Jackson's presidency controversial or not truly was a government "for the people by the people" expanding and promoting Democracy for many generations to come.
