The Hatchet (Chapters 1-6)
the hatchet project 1-6
Brian Robeson, a 13 year old boy travelling in a Cessna 406 bush plane travelling to the oil fields of Canada to visit his father during the summer. This was the first time visiting his father after the divorce between his parents, as the custody only allowed Brian to visit his father during the summer. During the ride, he kept repeating his thoughts towards a "secret" and how he hated judges. The pilot allowed Brian to drive and experience what it's like to control a plane. Later, Brian had acknowledged that the pilot was sending a constant odor from his body. Shortly after, the pilot had a critical heart attack and later passed away.
He was alone. Brian tried to take the headsets off the dead body to communicate over the radio. He messed around, and tried to find out how to use the radio. Once he figured out how to use the radio, there were many things he didn't know about the plane to communicate and help identify where he is. Meanwhile, the radio kept getting interrupted by static noises making it impossible to transferring messages over the radio.
He was in shock and afraid of what might happen next. Rather than blue patches of water, he could only see a green environment. Brian was convinced that he wouldn't be able to survive the crash. The plane kept getting lower, rushing and breaking through trees. At last, he finally saw a pool of water. He headed straight for it.
As he wakes up, and he finds himself alive after the plane crash. Brian felt weak. His face was swollen from all the mosquito bites and he was tired. Brian heard all the natural background sounds, creating a peaceful ambiance. He then remembers, all of what he's experienced throughout and before the divorce, know as "the secret". Soon, he fell back to sleep.
Awaken by the unbelievable thirst and hunger, he was forced to drink from the lake. He forced himself to think positive and ignore all the horrible events that have just happened, by reminding himself about one of his motivational English teachers. He gathers his thoughts once again, and gets to the thought of surviving
He finds a perfect place to build a lean-to shelter. A deep cave-like shelter with a perfect room making a perfect place to stay. He decides to go on an adventure to find food. Keeping the lake on his right side, he follows a few birds that guide him a bush full of berries. Brian finds some bushes full of unfamiliar red berries, which he didn't know if they were safe to eat. With little choice, he forces himself to eat them.
