Hi, I'm Owl Capone, the great horned owl, I'm here to teach you about Owl Pellets.
Since I don't have teeth, I eat my prey whole. I separate the bone from the flesh with enzymes and pressure from my stomach.
I have muscles that stop the hair and bones from going farther.
The meat enters my intestine, which then sends the nutrients out into the rest of my body.
Now, where are the bone and hair going? You might ask. The bone and hair are combined to make pellets which are then expelled through my mouth.
I have many adaptations that help me hunt. Here are four of them. 1. On the edge of my wings, there are little feathers. These prevent the sound of whistling when I'm flying. 2. The facial disks are special feathers around my eyes that direct light into them, this allows me to see in total darkness. 3. My beak is very strong and can break necks and crush heads. I use this to kill my prey the fastest.
4. My talons can hook on to my prey and prevent it from escaping. They can kill small prey, but if they can't, they will hold the prey still for my beak, which will finish the job.
