the colonial legislature was elected by males that owned property. the first of these legislatures was the house of burgesses. in 1704 Boston's first successful newspaper was launched.
in trade, England only wanted specific products shipped to them, no matter what. the products they wanted was stuff like tobacco and furs. also that the products could not be shipped to other colonies. these rules and policies were forms of mercantilism. this was common in most proprietary colonies.
