Student e-portfolios were born out of faculty assigned, print-based students portfolios in the mid-80's and gained prominence in higher education during the mid 90-s. The Urban Universities Project (UUPP) was the first formal initiative to explore institutional e-portfolios UUPP was a collaboration among six public universities to develop institutional e-portfolio prototypes.
