  • Lee's army surrounded Hooker's army on both sides at Fredricksberg giving the Confederate Army a win.
  • July 1, Lee's army pushed the union back making them form a tight defense on cemetery ridge and Culp's hill at the battle of Gettysburg.
  • on July 2, The battle lasted all night and Lee's army was only able to build some trenches on Culp's hill.
  • on July 3, 1968.Thinking the union was week, Lee sent 15000 troops charging at the unions, know as Picketts charge. The plan went miserable, 7500 confederates were killed during the battle.
  • After this battle the confederates would never attack in the north again. 50000 total men were killed during the battle. This battle was very important because the united states would not be like what it is today if the union did not win the war.
  • After the war, Lincoln gave a short but important speech remembering those who died for our country and showing that all the union soldiers who died were placed at the Gettysburg cemetery.
