Ms. Cora's purse gets stolen and when Michael sees it happening he throws a baseball at the robber and it hits him in the head and knocks him down. Many official people get involved and want to give Michael awards for his act.
(about a month earlier) Papi has always know he had heart problems because it runs in the family and he has had them before. After having a long day at his driving work he gets a bad pain in his chest and can't get to a doctor soon enough. Sadly he passed away and now his boys, Carlos,17, and Michael, have to figure out a way to stay together and not get put in foster homes.
Michael and his best friend, Manny play on a little league team and while practicing meet a girl named Ellie who is an amazing pitcher. They all become good friends and keep playing baseball together. But then something bad happens, the other Little League team coaches write a letter to the board saying that he is not the right age for his team because he is too good and they want to see his birth certificate. Unfortunately Michael is from Cuba and his birth certificate is still there. They have to find a way to find it so he ca get playing again.
Its the semifinals and Michael is still not able to play. Then something amazing happens, Ellie, El Grande, Mr. Gibbs, and an official person from the Little League board come on field holding Michaels Birth Certificate. Turns out Manny called Ellie and told her what had happened and El Grande got in touch with people from Cuba to get Michael's Birth Certificate.
Ms. Cora tells Mr. Gibbs everything including how Papi passed away. She askes if she can have temporary custody of the boys until Carlos turns 18 in a couple of months. Mr. Gibbs has a better idea he thought he could work on him adopting them.
Then in the end the Clippers end up making it to the Finals and win the game. Everything ends up being ok and Michael can keep playing baseball. Carlos and Michael can have a new person to take care of them.
