These troops went to Batoche and began battling with the Metis people. Most Metis women stayed in the village and helped however they felt they could.
After three days of fighting the Metis and their Dakota and Cree allies surrendered to the soldiers from Ontario. 35 First Nations and Metis people died while 53 Ontarian soldiers died and 118 were injured. The resistance was finished.
After the resistance more than twelve Metis ended up in prison and Riel was found guilty of treason and sentenced to hang.
