Charlie Gordon, the main character in ¨Flowers for Algernon¨ undergoes surgery to increase his intelligence. In the story, doctors measure the his progress with IQ, or intelligence and learning ability. Researchers now recognize that one test cannot accurately measure the wide range of intellectual abilities.
Charlie is chosen to be operated on for the operation to triple his intelligence.
Charlie becomes very intelligent, more intelligent than anyone he knows and starts to realize how people really view him and treat him. Something he could never notice before the operation.
Algernon bites Charlie and starts showing weird behavior, this behavior leads to signs that the operation that was done on Algernon is wearing off which also means the same thing will happen to Charlie.
Charlie starts to experience the outcome of the operation and becomes less intelligent each day. He experiences pretty much the same scitifects Algernon did before he died. He decides to move out of New York and let people laugh at him so he has friends.
