Storyboard Text

  • He prophesied [...]. That I should defile my mother's bed and raise up seed too loathsome to behold and slay the father from whose loins I sprang.
  • What reason had he then to call me son?
  • Know that he took you from my hands, as a gift. [...] I found you in Cithaeron's wooded glens.
  • Thus born why should I fear to trace my birth? Nothing can make me other than I am.
  • O woe on you, poor wretch! With that last word I leave you, never will speak to you again.
  • Oedipus recites his prophecy.
  • O light, may I behold you nevermore! I stand a wretch, in birth, in wedlock cursed, a parricide, incestuously, triply cursed!
  • For if you are truly what this man says, God help you! You were born to misery.
  • The messenger tells Oedipus that his parents aren't his biological parents.
  • Thrust me forth from your borders with all speed; set me within some vast desert where no mortal voice shall greet me any more.
  • Jocasta figures out the truth, but Oedipus still doesn't know.
  • Since come it must, thy duty is to tell me.
  • I have no more to say; storm as thou wilst, And I give the rein to all thy pent-up rage.
  • oedipus finally finds out the truth
  • oedipus banishes himself
  • Teiresias insists that regardless of what he says or does fate will play itself out.
