Burning Mrs. Baker and her Books
Captain Beatty's Visit
Books create problems for society, yet we firemen may get tempted with what they contain and take one instead of burning it.
We let him have it for a day. After that, his is to burn the book; however, if the book is not destroyed, then us firemen will need to come in to burn it ourselves.
What happens if a fireman is caught taking a book?
The firemen are sent to destroy the books owned by Mrs. Baker, yet she chooses to ignite cause the fire herself, burning her books and herself in the process. Guy, who tried to get her to leave, takes one of Mrs. Baker's books.
Beatty visits after Guy does not come in to work and explains how books are hazardous to society as they may contain offensive content for some people. To deal with this treat, firemen must burn books. Since firemen may become tempted by these books, they are allowed have the book for a day then destroy it; the firemen will otherwise come to burn it.
