In the beginning, Stanley Kowalski comes off to the audience as a loving and kind man, but as you read into the story you soon find out that he is a violent drunk that does not care about anyone but himself.
"Pig- Polak-disgusting-vulgar-greasy!- them kind of words have been on your tongue and your sister's too much around her! What do you two think you are? A pair of Queens? (8.14)
This quote exemplifies Stanley's distraught reaction to his wife's tone and how she talks like she is above him. He believes he is the king of the household and should be treated as such.
"Oh! So you want some rough-house! All right, let's have some rough house!" (10.130)
This quote represents how Stanley does not care about anyone but himself. He will hurt anyone to feel power over someone. Also shows that he struggles with anger problems.
Through these quotes Tennessee Williams helps the reader discover that during the era of the novel men felt that they were truly superior over women and that by working a job they were superior over women . Also, Williams discovers that men will do anything to feel superior in this time period such as beating, raping and verbally abusing women and those who threaten there throne.
