Storyboard Text

  • Put your paws up in the air now!
  • You are charged with statutory burglary , two counts of assault and assault of a minor. You don't seem to have any ties to the community... bail is set at $7,000.
  • Mr. Cat was arrested trying to break into a second house. with intent to steal more fish.
  • A lawyer will be appointed to you if you cannot afford one.
  • Demon Cat is apprehended outside a house caught trying to break in and steal fish.
  • As you can see from the scratch marks, eye witness accounts, and the DNA on the fish, the defendant is guilty.
  • Seems the jury agrees!
  • But...
  • At the bail hearing the bail is set at $7,000 after it is discovered he doesn't have many ties to the community.
  • I wasn't read my Miranda rights!
  • Then we can appeal the case.
  • At the arraignment, Demon Cat's intentions and past crimes are examined at length and his trial date is set.
  • Because the defendant's statements upon arrest were not used in the case, we are upholding the lower court's ruling.
  • The case goes to the circuit court, which has original jurisdiction over the case since the two charges of assault are felonies. The jury decides the defendant is guilty.
  • Demon Cat and his lawyer decide to appeal the case to the Court of Appeals after not being read his Miranda rights.
  • The Court of Appeals uses appellate jurisdiction to uphold the previous courts ruling because the statements said by the defendant upon arrest were not used in the case.
