  • Did you know that the act crippled the US economy. 
  • This act was passed on December 22, 1807. Sighned by preisident Thomas Jefferson. 
  • The embargo act was the banning of trade with another country. 
  • The US ships weren't allowed to sail to foreign ports. And foreign countries weren't allowed to sail to US ports. BUT THEY COULD TRADE WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD!!!! Thats hurting us more than them
  • This act crippled the US economy, and because it crippled the economy it damaged Jefferson's popularity. 
  • This had little effect on britain. 
  • In 1808 a new president was elected. James Madison.
