Hello everyone! My name is Madeleine Challies. I live on Vancouver Island with my two kids and partner. I am originally from eastern Canada but have lived on the beautiful west coast since 1998.
My favourite activities are biking, reading, and lately sitting around the campfire as we isolate at home.
I've been teaching French Immersion at the middle school level since 2007. I am passionate about language teaching and finding authentic interactive language learning opportunities through projects.
I especially love reading with my students. It can be a challenge to help students develop a love of reading for pleasure in their second (or third! or fourth!) language. I love helping them discover the countless amazing French books through a combination of reading aloud, paired reading, lit circles and independent reading.
In recent years, I have had the chance to order French books for our library and help support literacy for our French Immersion program. This opportunity has sparked my interest in becoming a teacher librarian. There is so much to learn and I am eager to begin!
I really enjoy collaborating with colleagues and I look forward to working with you all on this next chapter of our learning journey!(side note- I typically wear slightly more formal clothes to work but that was beyond my technical capabilities for my first storyboard. Besides, this does look like my pandemic teaching outfit:)
