The Narrator is introduced and is trying to prove to us that he is not crazy and is saying that he can tell the story calmly.
The Narrator lives in the same building as an older man lives and the man has a grey eye and the Narrator doesn't like it. But he is not mean to the old man he says he loves old man the only problem is the eye.
"Villains, dissemble no more! I admit the deed- tear up the planks!- here, here!- it is the beating of his hideous heart!"
For 8 days he slowing made his way into the room watching the old man and he was always very careful and he took his time. But he couldn't kill the old man yet because the eye was never open and he didn't want to kill the man just to get rid of the eye
On the 8th night he was to eager to get in that he made to much noise and the old man woke up. Then he started to hear the old mans heart and he thought a neighbor would hear so he leaped onto the old man and pulled him onto the floor and put the on top of him until he didn't hear the heart anymore.
One of the neighbors heard the old man shriek so they called the police but he was not scared because he had hid chopped up the body and hid it under the the floor. So he let them in knowing that they would never know.
The narrator started to hear the sound of the dead man's heart, but he tried to hide it by talking louder and more cheerful. But it kept getting louder and louder he thought that the officers would hear it. So he admitted to killing the old man.
