  • This amendment affected millions of former slaves in the South
  • Forced slavery, except as punishment for a crime, will not be allowed in the United States or any place under their authority
  • Lives would be changed forever as slaves went from property...
  • free men, women, and children who could now build their own life in America.
  • This amendment was signed by President Abraham Lincoln in February of 1865, and was the first step to the equality we have today.
