Hello people of the 21st century, my name is Muhammad. I was born about the year of 570 CE. My father died 6 months before I was born and then later my mom died of an illness. When I was 8 I lived with my paternal grandfather and then when he passed away I lived with my uncle.
As I was an orphan William Montgomery Watt saw that I did not starve to death but was not taken care of very well. This is how most attitudes were and how orphans were treated in Arabia during this time period.
When I was a teenager I would travel with my uncle on his trading journeys so that I could gain commercial trade. I had also become a merchant and I was involved in trade between the pacific and mediterranean. I was given a nickname that mean faithful and trustworthy.
I attracted a proposal in 595 from a 40 year old widow named Khadijah. We had a happy marriage. Several years later I was involved in setting the Black Stone in place in the wall of Kaaba. This is a very sacred object and was removed during renovations. I placed the Black Stone in the center and was honored by all.
I later began praying in the cave of Hira and was visited by Gabriel the angel. I was very distressed after recieving my first revelations. I felt like I was going crazy. I was finally able to give in for myself to the prayers and spiritual practices. I felt inspired and thought I should no be worshiped but my life and behaviors be a moral example to other Muslims.
Later revelations were included in the Quran. To Muslims the Quran was the verbatim word of God. Me and other Muslims did not write down the Quran. This was memorized and recited orally and then was written down after my death (not that I would know that because I'm alive here telling you my story haha!).
