Storyboard Text

  • Foreshadowing
  • 4. True true
  • 2. We will go back; you will be ill, and I cannot be responsible.
  • 1. Ugh Ugh Ugh Ugh
  • 3. Enough, the cough is a mere nothing; it will not kill me. I shall not die of a cough.
  • Imagery
  • "We had passed through the long walls of piled skeletons, with casks and puncheons intermingled, into the inmost recesses of the catacombs."
  • Tone
  • The thousand injuries of Fortuanato I had borne as best I could, but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge.
  • This is an example of foreshadowing because Fortunato says that he will not die of a cough. Montresor says "true true", therefore he knows that Fortunato is going to die. It is kinda hinting at, you might not die of this but you will die.
  • Mood
  • This is an example of imagery because it is describing what the walls look like that they are walking through. The narrator makes it easier to visualize what things look like.
  • Irony
  • "I shall not return till morning." I had given them explicit orders not to stir from the house.
  • The tone of this short story is evil and ominous; this thought of Montresor shows the way that it is evil. He is saying of the thousands of things Fortunato has done to him he has held in, but when he insulted him he had to get back at him.
  • Symbolism
  • "Nemo me impune lacessit." No one attacks me with impunity
  • The mood of this short story is awkwardly disturbing. Montresor is laying the layers of brick, when he hears the chains vibrating from Fortunato trying to get out. He stats that he stops what he was doing, and sits the in the pile of bones to listen to the satisfying noise.
  • I laid the second tier, and the third, and the fourth; and then I heard a furious vibrations of the chain. The noise lasted for several minutes, during which, that I might harken to it with the more satisfaction, I ceased my labors and sat down upon the bones.
  • This is ironic because he is telling them not to go out, but he knows they will because they think he won't be home until the morning.
  • This is Montresor's family motto, and it is showing as a symbol for revenge. Montresor is getting revenge on Fortunato for insulting him, therefore their motto shows as a symbol.
