  • Washington and is troops crossed over the Delaware on Christmas night 1776 to surprise Hessian troops.
  • Campfires
  • The americans surprised the Hessians therefore killing there commander and enslaving 900 British soldiers
  • Washington then Withdrew back over the Delaware.Word then spread that Cornwallis was sending a large British troop south towards Trenton from Princeton.George took his troops back over the Delaware on December 29.When the army arrived on January 2nd the Americans were on the other side of a little creek called the "Assunpink" Cornwallis and his troops tried to cross the bridge over Assunpink but was repelled
  • Cornwallis believed he had the American Army trapped because he saw the campfires.Little did Cornwallis know it was a decoy
  • The campfires were in fact a distraction for the American army to escape to Princeton.By the time the British army noticed the Americans were already almost to Princeton.
  • This slowed the process of the revolution.Thi also increased the confidence in the armies abilities,which as a result, increased the armies numbers.
