  • Mary Jackson graduated from George P. Phenix Training School with high honors.
  • After high school she studied at the Hampton Institute earning a dual degree in math and physical science. 
  • Jackson was then hired by NASA to work  as a human computer. Here she calculated math problems to send men to Outer Space.
  • In 1958  Jackson  became the first female  African American to be an engineer at NASA. 
  • May 5th 1961 Project Mercury launched. This project was one that Jackson hel very close to heart and worked in the high speed wind tunnle working out calculations. 
  • Jackson retired   and later after her death a book and movie was created based off of her story along with two other women she worked with.
