Storyboard Text

  • Odysseus and his best men travel to an unknown land and decide to go explore and find out what lives on this land. "In the next land we found were Cyclopes, giants, louts, without a law to bless them" (374).  exposition
  • The men go into the cave of Polyphemus, a Cyclops. Odysseus' men do not want to go into the cave, but Odysseus leads them straight in. "Yet I refused. I wished to see the caveman..." (376). rising action
  • When Polyphemus enters the cave, he does not see the men at first. But when Polyphemus realizes they are in his cave, he calls Odysseus and his men "strangers" and eats two of them. "... but Cyclops went on filling up his belly wit manflesh and great gulps of whey..." (378). rising action
  • Odysseus tricks Polyphemus and stabs him in the eye. He moves around carelessly, not being able to see, and removes the slab of stone that is blocking the doorway. The Cyclopes tries to call for help, but Odysseus already tricked him with his "name." " 'Nohbdy, Nohbdy's tricked me, Nohbdy's ruined me!' " (381). climax
  • Odysseus and his remaining men leave the land of the Cyclopes and also steal their sheep. Odysseus says, "... we rounded up his fat, stiff-legged sheep to take aboard, and drove them down to where the good ship lay" (382). resolution
  • Odysseus and his men leave the land of the Cyclopes and continue their journey.  They are very sad because they lost their friends on this island. "So we moved out, sad in the vast offing, having our precious lives, but not our friend" (385). falling action
