  • I just want cookies, Nanny. 
  • Reaction Formation: Switching to unacceptable impulses to their opposites
  • Welcome to Choir Auditions!

  • This whole team is stupid!
  • Projection: Disguise one's own threatening impulses by attributing them to others.
  • There is no reason my son should be failing this class. It doesn't make any sense for an AP student. I need to know what you're going to do to help my son, because this is your fault as his teacher.
  • The girl was chosen last for the basketball team at recess. After school, she went home to her grandmother's for cold milk and cookies.
  • Rationalization: offer self-justifying explanations in place of real, more threatening unconscious reasons for one's actions
