Storyboard Text

  • William Armstrong
  • His name is Doodle.
  • Doodle was born in a caul which is basically a bubble. The doctor said he wasn't going to live, so they made a casket for him. Brother names him Doodle because it fit his personality. Doodle was originally named William Armstrong.
  • This baby is going to die.
  • No, he is not. This baby is blessed.
  • Doodle, don't you want to learn to walk?
  • Brother is teaching Doodle how to walk. They are at Old Woman Swamp. Doodle finally learns how to walk underneath a tree in the swamp. When he was 6 years old he finally learned how to walk. Doodle showed his parents and they were very proud of him.
  • Doodle and his family hear an exotic bird outside and it turns out to be a scarlet ibis. The Scarlet Ibis dies and Doodle feels bad for it so he buries it. He had a memorial service for the bird. Doodle is pale and not hungry after he does this.  The bird represents Doodle because he is different and out of place.
  • Brother pushed Doodle to do more and more. Brother did this so he could fit in with the other boys at school. Brother didn't want to be known as the boy with the brother who couldn't do the same things as a normal boy could do. Brother pushed Doodle to do things like row a boat, swim, run, climb trees, and even fight.
  • Keep going Doodle!
  • It starts storming so Brother and Doodle start running. Doodle falls but Brother keeps running because of his pride. He then realizes that he should go back for Doodle and help him, so he does.
  • Don't leave me Brother!
  • Hurry up, Doodle!
  • No! Doodle! I am so sorry!
  • Brother goes back to find Doodle, he finds him dead under a bush. Brother was extremely sad and mad at himself that his own pride got in the way of his little brother. And he paid the price for it.
