  • Causes of World War 1
  • Militarism- It indicated a rise in military spendings, an increase in military and naval forces, more influence of the military men upon the policies of the civilian government, and a preference for force as a solution to problems.
  • Alliances- The tensions had been rising for sometime. The existing alliances dragged nations into the war. Germany was brought into the war when its ally, Austria-Hungary, declared war on Serbia. Russia was allied with Serbia and France.
  • I am from France and he is from Russia, we are alliances.
  • Imperialism- The increasing competition and desire for greater empires led to an increase in confrontation that helped push the world into WW1.
  • Our country is going to be bringing additional territories under its control, so we can increase our power and wealth.
  • Nationalism- Each country was trying to prove their dominance and power.
  • We need to prove our loyalty to our nation!
  • I am declaring war on Serbia!
  • The "spark"- After a Serbian nationalist assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, from A-H, the alliance system kicked in. A-H declared war on Serbia, Germany declared on Russia and so on.
  • Then I will declare war on Russia!
