Causes of World War 1
Militarism- It indicated a rise in military spendings, an increase in military and naval forces, more influence of the military men upon the policies of the civilian government, and a preference for force as a solution to problems.
Alliances- The tensions had been rising for sometime. The existing alliances dragged nations into the war. Germany was brought into the war when its ally, Austria-Hungary, declared war on Serbia. Russia was allied with Serbia and France.
I am from France and he is from Russia, we are alliances.
Imperialism- The increasing competition and desire for greater empires led to an increase in confrontation that helped push the world into WW1.
Our country is going to be bringing additional territories under its control, so we can increase our power and wealth.
Nationalism- Each country was trying to prove their dominance and power.
We need to prove our loyalty to our nation!
I am declaring war on Serbia!
The "spark"- After a Serbian nationalist assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, from A-H, the alliance system kicked in. A-H declared war on Serbia, Germany declared on Russia and so on.
Then I will declare war on Russia!
