Mr. President, sir, we need your authorization for operation GRAND SLAM.
You have it, just make sure our pilot gets home safe.

President Eisenhower approves the U2 plane to fly over Soviet Union. Operation GRAND SLAM was a go.
Alright, alright, it was a spy plane ok, please don't hurt me!
I knew the Americans were spying on us, now I can call them out in it and make them look like fools!
Operation Grand Slam was scheduled to take place 15 days before the opening of the east-west summit conference in Paris.
We should instate an open skies policy so that we can both guard against nuclear threats
We don't have any bases close to you, this would be more beneficial for you than it would be for me.
The U2 was shot down and the pilot, Gary Powers, was captured by the Soviets just outside of Chelyabinsk.
The Soviets plan was to develop a political trap for Eisenhower, the plan was to allow the Americans to continue to call the plane a weather plane then reveal that the pilot was still alive and had confessed to the true purpose of the plane.
After the US was exposed for the U2 plane, US calls meeting with the Soviets to discuss a possible open skies agreement. However, as was normal between the two nations, if one decided a agreement would be beneficial to the other the plan was immediately denied.
