Lindsey isolated herself from everyone, and did not want to talk to people. She felt responsible for Susie's death, and found it hard to look at herself. She took showers in the dark, and wouldn't even look at herself in the mirror.

Jack is determined to catch Mr. Harvey because he knows that he killed Susie. He is so determined he is willing to risk the death of himself. At night, Jack sees a light and suspects Mr. Harvey is in the cornfield, but it is really Clarissa and Brian. There is a great deal of confusion and Brian severely hurts Jack.
"I know you're here...he could barely breathe" (Sebold 138).
Buckley holds onto Susie's monopoly piece because it has special meaning for him. He finds it hard to let go of his sister.

Abigail cheats on her husband, Jack Salmon with Len Fenerman, the detective investigating Susie's case. She is kissing Len in the hall while her husband is in bad condition laying in bed in his hospital room. She is extremely selfish.

Jack shows his weakness after Susie's death. He has trouble staying strong. He becomes weak without Susie. Jack smashes the ships in the bottle he made with Susie because the memory is painful.

He brought back a knife...the end came anyway" (Sebold 15).
Mr. Harvey is a very cruel, horrible, and creepy person. He raped, killed, and dismembered Susie in the cornfield behind her house.
