On September of 1997, Mrs. Miller told the kids to pick a country to write a letter to.
Okay class! Today we are going to pick a country. Then, we will write to a school there.
I want Zimbabwe! I will get to work writing right away!
My note to Lauren
Class! I have letters from America!
I wonder who my pen pal is!
One month later in Zimbabwe...
Martin Ganda and Caitlin Stoicsitz wrote letters and emails to each other from 1997 to 2003. In that time, Caitlin also sent many gifts and money to his family. Martin stayed in school to study because of Caitlin. Caitlin and her mom, Anne, helped Martin get into college, too.
Hi, my name is Caitlin, I'm twelve years old. I live in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. I'm in the seventh grade. My brother Richie is in eleventh grade. I play softball and soccer and field hockey. I like the Spice Girls and the Back Street Boys. And my favorite color is pink. For fun, I like to go shopping at the mall on the weekend. I also like to go roller skating and bowling with my friends. And to eat pizza. What do you like to do for fun? And what is it like in Zimbabwe? Sincerely, Caitlin Stoicitz.
Congratulations Martin! A lot of people believe in you, including me.
In July 2003, Martin has been accepted to Villanova University in the United States. He received a package from Rebecca Mano.
Finally on August 15, 2003, Martin went to America to meet Caitlin and her family and to do school.
Welcome Home Martin!
IT IS SO GREAT TO SEE YOU!!
Eighteen years ago, I wrote a letter...
As it became 2015, and she became an adult and mother, Caitlin Alifirenka told West Chester High School about how she met Martin.
