Hello everyone! I am John Macdonald from Canada East. Today, we will be discussing how to join the Maritimes and Canadas into a country and how we will share the power.
I have written 72 resolutions which contain details of how the new country will work.
That is splendid! I am in favour of the plan.
Well, I am opposed to this whole idea! Nova Scotia will be overwhelmed by the larger provinces of Ontario and Quebec. Also, the Canadas are too far away from Halifax for the union to be successful. What do you think Antoine?
I agree with you Joseph. I think that the proposals will lead to the destruction of the French culture. I want a referendum on the plan for union.
Some of the features of Canada's government are that it will be a federal constitution so there would be a government for the country and each province and each level of government will be responsible for specific areas. What do you think Mr. Laurier?
All I want is a free and separate government for Canada East. Unfortunately, I am not in favour of the plan.
While you have been discussing rules, we haven't fully consulted the population. I think that the Canadas should stay out of the union!
I am sorry you feel that way, but there have been 91 votes in favour and 33 votes opposed for the plan. Majority wins.
Now that we have come to a conclusion, the next conference will take place in London.
