1. I am the lord thy god, thou shall not have any strange gods before me,
¨ Oh John, the worlds full of hypocrites.¨
In this scene we find an example of dramatic irony. John admits that he had an affair with Abigail. When Elizabeth comes into the court and is asked why she fired Abigail Williams , she does not know what to say. In order to protect her husband she states ¨ She Dissatisfied me. And my husband.¨
In this scene John is asked to list the ten commandments to prove his Christianity .He only lists ten of the commandments and he repeats one of the commandments. His wife tells him that he missed adultery which is ironic since that was the one he broke. This is an example of situational irony , it provides comic relief and also insight on fallacies of Johns character.
In this scene which takes place in Act 2 scene 2 Abigail Williams tells John ¨ Oh John, the world is full of hypocrites.¨ This an example of verbal of verbal irony, because she is a liar, not the people in jail that are accused of being witches. At the very moment she is feeding John lies.
