Caeser Chaverz was born in Yuma, Az in 1927. He was the third to be born out of 6. He grew up on a family ranch during the great depression.
During the 1930's, business was so doing so bad they had to leave for California
At the age of 17 he joined the navy and was out 2 years later at 19.
He met his wife when he was 19 and when she was 20, they got married in 1948 and had 8 kids
He built an organization called The United Farm Workers . Using four of our rights from the First Amendment, he did things to make the union strong. He made speeches, put out leaflets and newsletters, and gathered together hundreds of college students and religious leaders to march across California to force government leaders to look into farm workers' problems. He knew these rights from the Constitution and the Bill of Rights belonged to everyone
Chavez attended over 37 schools but did not go past 8th grade
when they lost the land their lawyer told his father to take out a loan to get it back but didnt have the money too. the lawyer bought the land and sold it to the original owner. Thats when Chavez learned a lessons of injustices that he'll remember for the rest of his life.
He brought awareness to how important farmers are and that they should be getting paid more than they were, doing so, he lead peaceful protests, boycotts, strikes, etc. This attracted many famous people's attention such as Robert and Ethel Kennedy, who fully supported him.
