The great migration and discrimination
The great depression started in New York in 1929 and spread to Seattle. Many people started losing their job because of the stock market crash. It got so bad that it led to blacklash against minorities and women workers. People had to make their own houses of what ever they found because of lack of money.
People made their houses of stuff that they found around them but were not that secure. Many people did not have a job, so what they did was many people had boughten stocks and then sold it for less money for and people would buy it and that is how they made money. And then jobs wouldn't make money.
In between 1915-1930 their was a Great Migration. Where about half a million African Americans left the southern to head to the north. Americans got really mad at the African American people that they were not treating them with really low respect.
Discrimination got so bad that it got to the point that there was fighting involved. At one point it got so bad that when Americans saw African Americans at the beach they would throw rocks at them to hurt them and they started fighting got 8 days straight. Most Americans were rude towards African Americans because they were scared that they would their jobs.
The impact after the great depression left some people homeless and unemployed so they had to move to Hoovervilles. Hooverville's are shany towns that were created by unemployed people. there were all over cities including Seattle.
Some people after the great depression were affected by a big storm in what was called a dust bowl. The dust bowl is when a big soil erosion hit it ruined peoples crops. Also obligated people to move.
