Prince Hamlet's fathers ghost appears and tells Hamlet that he didn't die of a snake bite, he in fact died because his brother, Claudius who is now King, dripped poison in his ear when he was sleeping. Hamlet promises revenge.
Hamlet decides to check that the ghost is telling the truth by doing a reanactment of the murder by doing a play. He wants to see how Claudius reacts and to see if he is guilty or not not. He also decides to act mad. Claudius does react by shouting and telling the play to stop.
Gertrude, Hamlet's mother, talks to him in her room. She asks Polonius, Claudius' advisor, to stand behind a curtain. She tells Hamlet that she is not happy with him for upsetting Claudius. Polonius sniffs from behind the curtain and Hamlet hears. He thinks that it is Claudius so stabs the curtain and killing Polonius. Claudius hears about this and decides to send Hamlet away to England to be hanged. He sends a letter to the King to inform this.
On his way to England, Hamlet is assisted by Rozencrantz and Guildenstern, his childhood friends, and he manages to capture the letter to the King and changes it to saying to kill Rozencrantz and Guildenstern instead of him. He gets captured by pirates and returns to Denmark.
When Hamlet arrives in Denmark he comes to a grave yard where he sees a ceremony happening. He overhears someones saying that it is Ophelia's funeral, Ophelia was Hamlet's girlfriend who killed herself after her father's death, and feels guilty so he jumps into the pit and declares he loves Ophelia more than anyone else. Laertes, who hates Hamlet, also does this and argues that he loved Ophelia more. They start fighting
Claudius wants to kill Hamlet so he tells Hamlet and Laertes to duel. Because he wants Hamlet to die, he poisons Laertes sword so if he just skims his skin he'll die. If Hamlet somehow does win, he will offer him poisoned wine as a victory drink. Laertes stabs Hamlet and Gertrude drinks the poisoned wine and dies. Hamlet stabs Laertes and they lie o the floor. They both forgive each other and Hamlet, with his last bit of energy, stabs Claudius and makes him drink the rest of the wine. Claudius dies.
