  • Proclamation of 1763
  • Colonists Stay Out!
  • Stamp Act
  • Boston Massacre
  • After the French and Indian War people living in the colonies began moving west. The British king issued an official statement closing the western land to settlement.
  • Boston Tea Party
  • Britain passed a law that all newspaper, legal documents, and other items had to be stamped to show tax was paid. Colonist hated the stamp act and soon boycotted it.
  • Bunker Hill
  • One night, a scuffle between British soldiers and the Boston colonists got out of hand. Five colonists were killed.
  • Declaration of Independence
  • The Parliament passed several laws to punish the colonists because of the Boston Tea Party. These acts took away many rights such as self-government.
  • The British won. This was significant because it showed that the inexperienced colonial soldiers were able to fight strongly against trained British soldiers.
  • Thomas Paine published a pamphlet which swayed people in everyday language to break away from Britain. Slowly the colonists decided to declare independence.
