  • Contemptuous, Scorn, and Writhe
  • Contorted and Subside
  • Woe and Aloof
  • ...
  • Max was very contemptuous towards Luke after Luke scornfully shoved Max to the ground, causing Max's knee to writhe in the wrong direction.
  • Sullen
  • Max's knee was so contorted, that he couldn't even stand on his own.  He asked his friend to help him up, which immediately made Max feel subsided on the inside.
  • Crestfallen, Bewilder, and Earnest
  • Max became woeful at the thought that his once friend was now acting all aloof towards him.
  • Confide, Meager, Console, and Appraise
  • In his sullen manner, Max and his friend hobbled to the nurse's office to try and get his leg feeling better.
  • The next day, Max was still crestfallen, but when he got called down to Guidance, he wasn't bewildered at all.  Mr. R was sitting there waiting for max to arrive, ready to give his earnest help.
  • Max confided with Mr. R, but he felt that his facts to support what happened were meager, but to his surprise, Mr. R consoled him and appraised Max for not fighting back!
