  • Engage: Asking the students a question about what they eat.
  • What types of food do you guys eat for dinner? Work as a group and come up with a menu.
  • Students are working on their menus on the foods they eat.
  • I like pizza, but hamburgers are my favorite. My mom made some for dinner last night! 
  • I love pizza! 
  • Explore: The students are working on groups and talking about their menus while the teacher is walking around and observing. She then asks them to figure out where they think the food originated from.
  • We drink milk. Where do you guys think milk came from? make a food chain and trace it back to a plant. 
  • Discussing as a class some of the groups' diagrams they have made on their food chains.
  • Cows eat grass and helps them produce milk, then we drink the milk. 
  • Expanding the learning on the subject. Kids will research other parts of the world and list plants that they depend on. 
  • People in Mexico eat cheese. The cheese is produced by goats and cows from their milk, and the animals eat plants. 
  • Evaluating the children's learning. 
  • Which one does not need food? Why?
