Kate applies to MIT without applying to any other schools since she was assured that she would get in. From that now she has insomnia and anxiety because she hasn't got a letter back.
Kate gets rejected by MIT, the college that she's been dreaming to go to for the longest time leading to her to rethink what she wants to do in life.
Kate realizes after this moment everything that she has been blinded by everything when she was thinking about MIT. She has finally come to a breakthrough that she doesn't need to care what people think of her and that she can be her own person. Now she can story running from her fears and live life happily.
