All the passengers survived from the shipwreck, except for Ferdinand. Gonzalo begins to celebrating their survival of the storm, but King Alonso is mournful because he's assuming his missing son, Ferdinand, has drowned.
Ariel then enters unseen, playing music, and gradually everyone but Sebastian and Antonio fall asleep. While everyone is asleep, Antonio and Sebastian devise a plot in which Sebastian will seize his brother's crown.
At this point, Ariel foils their first attempt by waking up Gonzalo. Gonzalo wakes and shouts “Preserve the King!" which wakes everyone else. Then Alonso questioned why they're swords out. Then everyone goes out and to search for Ferdinand.
