  • Hi! My name is Maria and Im going to tell you the story of the Totonacas.
  • The Totonacas lived during the post-classic period 900-1521.
  • The Totonacas more important cities were Tajín, Cempoala y Papantla.
  • The fertile land of the zones they lived in allowed them the plating of corn and beans.
  • They lived in the zones of Veracruz, Oaxaca, Puebla and Hidalgo.
  • The "cacique" represented the highest person on the Totonaca society.
  • And in the lowest part of the pyramid there were the normal people and the slaves.
  • The warriors and the priests followed in importance.
  • The merchants and nobles were below them.
  • Their religion was polytheist, that means that they believed in many Gods. They honored their dead people by burying them in funerary mounds, and they worship the sun, the rain and the wind, and the corn.
  • Their economy was based on the agriculture and growing of corn, beans, squash and tropical fruits complemented with hunting and fishing. They trade this products. 
  • They were great craftsmen and builders, they made pyramids with circular and pyramidal forms which they adorned with refined sculptures on example of this is the pyramid of the niches.
