  • The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament in March 22, 1765. This new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used.
  • December 16, 1763
  • The Townshend acts placed new taxes and took away some freedoms from the colonists including new taxes on imports of paper, paint, lead, glass, and tea.

  • The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5, 1770 when British soldiers in Boston opened fire on a group of American colonists killing five men.

  • The Boston Tea Party was a direct protest by colonists in Boston against the Tea Tax that had been imposed by the British government. Boston patriots, dressed as Mohawk Indians, raided three British ships in Boston harbor and dumped 342 containers of tea into the harbor.
  • The Coercive Acts were a package of five laws implemented by the British government with the purpose of restoring authority in its colonies.
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War.British troops had moved from Boston toward Lexington and Concord to seize the colonists' military supplies and arrest revolutionaries.
